In 2001, 20.3 million Americans had asthma, and 12 million had had an asthma attack in the previous year. Asthma is a disease that affects your lungs. It is the most common long-term disease of children. Asthma causes repeated episodes of wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness, and nighttime or early morning coughing. It is with you all the time, but you may have asthma attacks only when something bothers your lungs. The important thing to remember is that you can control your asthma and sometimes even make it go away. Doing your own research and education along with your healthcare provider’s suggestions, you can make your own asthma management plan so you know what to do based on your own particular symptoms.

Allergies Education Center
Allergies are an immune system reaction to substances that don't harm most people. This can include pollens, dust, foods, cosmetics, and such. The body produces antibodies to neutralize the foreign substance, which triggers the release of histamine, which produces what we see as allergies or asthma. Treatment can work on any part of the process: avoiding the allergen, reducing the production of histamines, etc. Allergies should be taken seriously; most allergic reactions are merely annoying but some can be life threatening. Sinusitis simply means inflammation of the sinuses, but this gives little indication of the misery and pain this condition can cause. Chronic sinusitis, sinusitis that persists for at least 3 weeks, affects an estimated 32 million people in the United States. Americans spend millions of dollars each year for prescription and over-the-counter medications that promise relief from their sinus symptoms. Most cases of acute sinusitis are preceded by virus-induced "colds." These viral "colds" do not cause symptoms of sinusitis, but they do cause inflammation of the sinuses.
